I don’t really want to journey too far into the world of political debate, but I want to throw in my two cents while the money still matters. I don’t much care for the world of politics: mudslinging, blind adherence to party lines, ad naseum conversation about non-important issues, and empty promises on the things that matter – not really my cup of tea. (Read: please don’t yell at me in the comments.)

Hillary Clinton never had my vote to begin with, but she lost all my respect today. In case you missed it, her camp put Obama in a position where he once again has to defend himself and his personal beliefs, and then she criticized him for countering the images she spread. I understand that she is on the verge of losing unless she wins in the remaining conservative states, states where even Democratic voters are likely to be less tolerant of deviations from WASP. It’s theoretically a brilliant political move. But my reaction is not about her strategy, but rather who she is as a person.

She created a situation where Obama can’t win no matter what he does, or at least that’s what I’m sure she shrewdly thought she was doing. The thing is: he wins by default because her tactics are slimy. While she sits and plays old-guard political games, Obama embodies change. Whether or not it’s true, Obama comes off being above the Hillary Clinton rants. He speaks of bridging partisan lines and creating unity while Hillary actively works to be divisive. It’s actions like hers that make me disillusioned politically.

I don’t vote for politicans; I vote for people. And today, Hillary Clinton proved that she is nothing more than a politician. I am taking a stand against this dirty campaigning now, if not for the purpose of electing sound public officials but at least for the admittedly selfish logic of attempting to avoid nasty attacking commercials for the rest of the year.

And that’s what I think about the Democratic front runners and why my vote (at least for now) lies with Obama.

P.S. Something I think is brilliant.

P.S. #2 Did you click the link? Seriously, it’s worth the read. :)
