I think that we often live in a world that shuns physical contact. Personally, I am a very jumpy person and I take affronts to my space personally. And those who insist on engaging in PDA acts in my presence do so at the peril of my scorn and/or gag reflex.
The first time I watched the Free Hugs video, I wondered what it was that they were actually campaigning for. It took me a while to realize: they were campaigning for people like me to lighten up! I think there’s a lot to be said about being able to let people enter your personal space. I’m still not sure how I feel about the prospect of cuddling up with strangers, but maybe there’s something to be said about allowing people in. About being open and maybe even a little vulnerable. About sharing in humanity and relishing the fact that in the end, it’s people who matter.

So by that token: does anyone want a hug?
